38th Annual TJA Conference
May 6-10, 2024 • San Marcos, TX

Welcome to the
38th Annual TJA Conference

38th Annual TJA Conference Attendees,

The Texas Jail Association is excited to welcome you to the 38th Annual Conference in San Marcos, Texas. We look forward to a wonderful week of training and networking. Thank you to Sheriff Gary Cutler and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office for all of the support and assistance.

On Monday, we will host the Annual Jerry Baggs Memorial Golf Tournament at the Kissing Tree Golf Club, located in San Marcos, Texas. That evening, we will host the Annual Jack Crump Scholarship BBQ fundraiser, which will be held outside on the veranda at Embassy Suites. The cost is $10 per person for a 3-meat plate and sides. All proceeds will go to the Jack Crump Scholarship.

There will be a variety of topics this year, instructed by leaders who have come from across the nation. Some of the topics this year will include leadership, women’s leadership panel, jail tactical operations, corrections K9 operations, and hot topics in the jail. Our keynote speaker will be Randy Prince, who prior to retirement, served as the Deputy Director of Law Enforcement Operations for DPS in addition to being a former Regional Director for the Texas Rangers. It is an honor to have him speak at our conference this year.

We encourage you to use the TJA conference app to access information regarding the training sessions, conference events, speaker bios, and the exhibit hall game. Throughout the conference you will receive push notifications and event notices from the app that will keep you up to date with all the conference activities. The candidates for Board of Directors will be listed in the app, along with their biographies. It is encouraged that you learn about your candidates, so that you can carry out your duty to vote. The Board elections will take place on the app and should any problems arise please bring it to the attention of a staff member.

We encourage you to sign-up for the blood drive on Tuesday, as this is the gift that can save lives. All donors will be entered in a drawing for $100. We will have lunch in the Exhibit Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday, so make sure that you take the time to make your way around the vendor hall and see all of the great products and services they have to offer. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards will host the Courtroom Challenge on Wednesday. If you have never played, grab you a teammate and sign-up. Wednesday night, we will host the Cornhole Tournament in the hotel foyer. We have a great evening planned for the banquet on Thursday night. Afterwards, we will have jukebox music and Casino Night. Come join the fun!

The 38th Annual Conference offers a lot of great training and provides opportunities to network with colleagues from across the state. If you are a first-time attendee, we encourage you to network and meet as many people as you can. You will develop resources that are invaluable as well as make friends for life. Enjoy your week of training and networking!

Sincerely,
